How to get to Cortona
By Plane -- If you are arriving by plane, the closest airports are Florence (Amerigo Vespucci) and Rome (Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino or Ciampino). From both cities you can reach Cortona comfortably by train: take a direct service to Cortona from Firenze Santa Maria Novella or Roma Termini. Other viable options with several direct international connections are the airports of Pisa (Galielo Galilei) or of Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi), but, in both cases, there is no direct train connection to Cortona and a change in Florence is mandatory. Since the conference takes place during the high season, we strongly recommend booking flights and long distance train tickets well in advance.
By Train -- If you are arriving by train, please note that Cortona has two stations: Camucia–Cortona (about 5 km from the historic center) and Terontola–Cortona (about 10 km away). We recommend getting off at Camucia–Cortona whenever possible. Cortona lies on the regional line connecting Firenze Santa Maria Novella and Roma Termini: from Rome there are 4 daily direct regional connections (approximately 135–180 minutes), while from Firenze Santa Maria Novella there are several direct connections and the journey takes about 80 minutes. Timetables are available on Trenitalia website, where you can also purchase electronic tickets. Regional-train tickets typically do not need to be booked far in advance; however, if you plan to travel by long-distance/high-speed services, we recommend booking ahead and—besides Trenitalia—also checking Italo.
At Camucia-Cortona -- the conference takes place at the Palazzone di Cortona, a monumental villa of the Scuola Normale Superiore, located about 4 km from the Camucia–Cortona train station. To reach Cortona, you can take the Autolinee Toscane bus line SU4 from the station—tickets and updated schedules are available through Autolinee Toscane. Please note that service can be limited on Sundays, so do check the timetable in advance at Autolinee Toscane. Alternatively or if you want to reach the Palazzone, you can take a taxi (recommended if you have luggage): call the unified taxi number +39 0575 087542.
