Call for Participation - Salon des Refusés

Our Computer Science Salon des Refusés [CSSR2024] (named after the  famous 1863 Salon des Refusés painting exhibition)  aims to be a “salon” in two senses of the word:  First, “salon” as an exhibition of  ideas in Computer Science that in their infancy were rejected from a major venue but later proven to be highly influential, and second “salon” as a meeting of convivial people getting together to share both amusement  and learning.

Submissions should be made via the FUN2024 Easychair submission server(Choose the Salon des Refusés track)

The way to participate is to propose a talk which is a survey of a published CS paper (preferably with an algorithmic bent) and its aftermath.  The subject paper must satisfy the following conditions:

Ideally the proposers are the original authors, but other experts in the field of the wrongly rejected paper are welcome as well.  The surveys should be aimed at a general non-specialist technical audience, and should start with a description of the original paper.  In particular they should be accessible to graduate students and thus introduce them to  the subject at hand but also teach them about the vagaries of research.

The proposal should be at most 4 pages long in PDF (in A4 or letter format, 11pt, single column, with reasonable margins) and should include:

It is important that the Easychair abstract gives a good synopsis of the proposal.

At least one author of every accepted paper is required to register and present the paper at the symposium.

This is the first edition of CSSR so some details are not fully decided.   Our current position is that authors of accepted proposals can choose to submit an extended version of their proposal to be published in the proceedings of FUN2024 or can choose to just publish their Easychair abstract.   (Proceedings of FUN2024 will be  published by LIPIcs, Schloss Dagstuhl – Leibniz Center for Informatics.)
