CONCERT DATES
Winter Concert: January 12th, 7 PM Spring Concert: June 15th, 6:30 PM
REEDS - Clarinets and Saxophones
STUDENTS WILL GO THROUGH ABOUT 1 REED A MONTH
(and that's not including reeds that drop on the floor or accidentally break!)
Bb Clarinet - 2 1/2 or 2.5
Eb Alto Saxophone - 2 1/2 or 2.5
There are many brands of reeds - I recommend Rico for cost-effectiveness. Vandoren and Mitchell Lurie are also good.
PRACTICE SHEETS
Practice Sheets are a part of Lesson Attendance
Consistent practice is the only way to develop the skills necessary for playing an instrument. The practice sheet reminds students of things they can work on at home and includes a space to check off how many times they practiced that week. There is a box for a parent/guardian signature. This is mostly for reminding students it should be filled out each week. Practice time could be as little as 10 minutes and count as a day. Students are encouraged to practice at least 3 days, and receive a sticker for practicing at least 2 days.
GRADING
If you show up and put in a little effort, you're golden!
Grading is comprised of the following components:
Lesson Attendance - 40%
Students bring their instrument, their music, their practice sheet, and themselves
Participation/Effort - 40%
While in lessons or band class, students engage in activities and work with others to become better musicians
Concert Attendance - 20%*
Students are prepared for and participate in the concert performance
*In the 1st marking period, there is no concert so Lesson Attendance and Participation/Effort become 50% each.
INSTRUMENT REPAIR
I will fix things that I can at school, but some issues require a repair technician.
If you are renting from Music & Arts and you have the LDW (liability damage waver), ALL REPAIRS are covered. I will send them to be repaired and they will be delivered back to the school upon completion. Bonus: Music & Arts typically supplies an instrument for students to use while their instrument is out of service!
If you are borrowing a school instrument, repairs are handled on a case-by-case basis depending on the severity and cost.
