Class Standards/Syllabus 2018-2019 - Norton

Math Pathways after UMS

The 8th Grade team thought it would be helpful to put information about high school math pathways on our websites. Leigh High School offers an integrated model (some Algebra, Geometry and Statistics each year) in their math classes that align with Common Core State Standards, while some schools offer the subject-specific model (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, etc...). If you are not planning on attending Leigh High School next year (or another school in CUHSD), it might be helpful to find out what model your future school follows and incoming student math expectations. If you plan to send your student to private school next year please contact any 8th grade math teacher so we can help answer any questions you may have. Since our model is now aligned with Leigh, we teach the integrated model at UMS.

CUHSD Integrated model: This information is also available on the Leigh High website. Please know that this is our understanding and it would be a good idea to talk directly with Leigh counselors as they continue to develop their integrated model.

Students graduating from Math CC8 at UMS are prepared to matriculate to IM 1 (Integrated Math 1) at Leigh or other schools in the Campbell Union High School district. Typically, these students will do the following: 9th - IM 1, 10th - IM 2, 11th - IM 3 or IM 3 STEM ( equivalent to an honors class) and in 12th grade they choose between Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, Statistics, or AP Statistics.

Students taking math CC8/9 at UMS will likely matriculate to IM 2. Their pathway might look like this: 9th-IM 2, 10th-IM 3 or IM 3 STEM, 11th they choose between Statistics, AP Statistics, or Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus and in 12th grade they either continue from Pre-Calc to AP Calculus A/B or take a math class they didn't take in 11th grade.

Here is a screen shot of the flow chart for Leigh math classes: Going from left to right, you follow the line you are on. For help understanding these pathways at Leigh or more information contact Leigh High School.
