Use this website to look up the level of a book your child is reading to see if it is at their level (second grade AR levels are 2.0-2.9). A good rule of thumb for choosing an appropriate book, if your child is reading independently, is if they don’t know 5 or more words on the first page, that book is too difficult for them to read by themselves.
