Current Events: Please click here for a sample Current Event project. Students have the directions and grading rubric in their binders, and have signed up for a date to present. They should have the date written down in their planners. There is also a google doc with everyone's presentation date in google classroom.
40 Book Challenge: Students have been given the goal to read 40 books (on their level) this school year. They are encouraged to read books across different genres. They are to fill out an index card summaring and rating the book when they finish a book. They also have a book log in their binders to keep track of their books and the different genres.

Student Led Conferences - 3/11 or 3/12
This trimester, Room 22 5th-graders will hold Student-Led Conferences.
You are welcome to come to Room 22 on either Wednesday, March 11, 2026, or Thursday, March 12, 2026, anytime between 1:30 pm - 3:15 pm (ending at 4:00) to witness and celebrate the growth your child has made this trimester. Please sign up for a date here.
This will be a relaxed, interactive event with subject-specific centers around the classroom. Your child will lead you through their conference, showing you their work and sharing their reflections and goals with you, as well as checking in with me for a few minutes.
All family members are welcome, and you’ll want to plan to stay for about 30-45 minutes.
This week we are starting book clubs with novels set during the American Revolution. Students will read one of the following books: George Washington's Socks, Loyalty, Woods Runner, Sophia's War, or Midnight Rider. Each week, students will think about character, vocabulary, connections, and generate a discussion question. Every Friday, they will meet with other students who are reading the same book to discuss what they read.
This week, our Greek/Latin root is cede, ceed, cess (go, yield). The prefix is pro___ (forward), and the suffix is ___or (person or thing that). The vocab test will be on Friday.
In writing, students will take the district assessment in informative writing.
This week, we will continue Module 4, which focuses on place value concepts for decimal operations. This week we will review converting measurements and applying decimals in the real world. There will be an End of Module 4 test on Friday.
In 5th grade, all students must be fluent with multiplication facts. Please practice at home if your child is not fluent.
This week we will begin lesson 12- The Declaration of Independence in our TCI textbooks. Students will have a quiz on Tuesday.
Students are with Mrs. Johal learning about Earth science- water- in this science rotation.
We have PE with Rhythm and Moves on Tuesdays. This is in addition to our class PE.
Our music program takes place every Tuesday morning. Students are participating in either band or choir.
