Even though Alta Vista doesn’t use AR (Accelerated Reader) it is still a good resource to find level appropriate books. Second grade level is 2.0-2.9. Below is a free AR Book Finder website to look up the level of most books. A good rule of thumb for choosing an appropriate book, if your child is reading independently, is if they don’t know 5 or more words on the first page, that book is too difficult for them to read by themselves.
