Peek at the Week:
Here is the Peek at the Week. The purpose of this document is for parents to have a list of your student’s daily assignments. Students can also use this as a checkoff list.
Room Parent:
Hooray! Liam’s mom Claire has volunteered to be our Room Parent! Keep a lookout for an email from her soon!
Small Groups:
The small groups are remaining the same for this week though I did have to shift the days back a day due to the holiday. Please note the days, times, and needed materials for each meeting.
Math:
We are beginning the 2nd grade curriculum this week with Module 1: Sums and Differences to 100. Please check out the section Math Corner on my website. Listed there are Parent Tip sheet for each Module, an overview of the math curriculum, and at the bottom of the webpage is a valuable parent resource: A teacher with the Eureka Math Bay Area Regional Consortium has created videos geared towards teachers/parents. He is very clear and explains things well. Thank you for taking the time to familiarize yourself with the Module.
Special Name Project: (continued)
Wow! Thank you for helping your child complete their name interview. I enjoyed watching them on Seesaw. Last week, your child should have started their written rough draft of their name story. We will work on editing and publishing this week.
Google Classroom Assignments and Codes:
Here is a tutorial on the Google Classroom assignments and codes. It is important for students to remember to mark “Turn in” or “Mark as done” so they can get credit for their work. They should also make sure they are finished with the work before turning it in. I have noticed that students are marking their assignments as done when it’s partially or fully incomplete.
Missing Assignments:
I have been thinking about how to communicate missing assignments to parents. I understand that strictly using Google Classroom may be a challenge for parents to accurately track work. I’m considering making a living document that would list missing assignments for each day. The doc would only be shared between individual families and me. The purpose would be for parents to check it on a regular/daily basis to know if their student is missing any assignments and to help them complete missing work. Adding this element would be an additional piece for me to complete each day, this is why I want to hear your input on it and if you would utilize it. Please let me know your thoughts by completing this form: Missing Assignments Form
Upcoming Events:
Thursday 10/1-Friday 10/9: Parent-Teacher Goal Setting Meetings (sign-up coming soon)
Friday 10/16: No School: Staff Professional Development Day
Monday 10/19: No School
Remind: If you haven’t yet, please join our class Remind by texting @wingers04 to 81010. It would be beneficial to join in case I lose internet connection at some point or if a program is down.

Peek at the Week:
Here is the Peek of the Week for August 31- September 4. Don’t forget that we do not have school on Friday, September 4th, or Monday, September 7th. That means there will be no assignments posted for those days.
Small Groups:
This week I will continue pulling small social groups in the morning directly after our morning meeting. Group times will be 9:00- 9:20/25. The purpose of the groups is to get to know each other, practice routines and procedures for small groups and to learn how the complete the Daily Language Review pages. Last week, we completed Week 1, Day 1 of the Daily Language Review. This packet was sent home in the materials tote bag in the navy blue folder with other projects and packets. Students will need this packet again this week. Please note that I have shuffled the students in each group. This is so more students can meet and work together.
I will also begin to pull groups for math this week. For math, I split the class in half. We will be working on routines and procedures specifically for math time, as well as math fluency activities. Math groups will be on Monday and Wednesday with two groups per day. Setting an alarm would be very helpful for your student since they will have to be returning to Zoom after signing off in the morning.
Math Group Times:
Group A: 10:20-10:45
Group B: 10:50-11:15
Chromebooks:
If you aren’t in the habit of doing this yet, please shutdown and restart your student’s Chromebook daily. The Chromebooks update when they are restarted so many tech issues can be solved by doing this on a regular basis.

Peek at the Week:
Here is the Peek at the Week for August 24-28. This can be used as a checkoff list for you and/or your student. We will begin using Lexia (Language Arts), Eureka Math, and Zearn (Math Program) this week.
Math:
We will start our Eureka Math lessons with a review of some first grade material. I changed all of the student’s lessons on Zearn to reflect this. Everyone should now be set to Grade 1, Module 6 Lesson 1. I do apologize to the students who were ahead and realize that it might cause some frustration to be placed back. We will be using Zearn this year to coincide with the lessons we are doing for the day.
There will be 2 math videos a day. Both begin with the title “TEACHING.”
Example: TEACHING- Mod. 6 Lesson 1 and “TEACHING- Problem Set Lesson 1”. Students MUST watch both videos. These are mini lessons teaching students the math concepts how to complete the Math Problem Set worksheet for the lesson.
Students will need the following materials daily for math:
1- For the teaching video
-Whiteboard
-Whiteboard marker (black Expo)
-Whiteboard eraser (old sock, small towel, paper towel…)
2- For the Problem Set/Worksheet Video
-Problem Set packet
-highlighter
-pencil
Please bear with me as I try to find the best practice for teaching our Eureka Math lessons remotely. There will be opportunities for math enrichment in the future.
Daily Zoom Calls:
Monday- Friday there is an 8:30 Morning Meeting Zoom Call.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday there is a 2:00 Afternoon Zoom Call. The afternoon call is not optional. This is part of their mandated live instruction minutes. Please help your child remember to join back at 2:00pm. If there is a circumstance where they are not able to join, please email me.
Small Groups:
We will be starting small groups this week! The purpose will be for building community. I will meet with one group a day on Monday-Thursday at 9:00 for about 15-20 minutes. If I am meeting with your student for the day, they can stay on the Zoom Call. I’ll remind them at the end of the call. The amount of small group time will build in the coming weeks. Here is the schedule for this week: (See e-mail)
Afternoon Assignments/Materials:
I started releasing the afternoon assignments at 11:20am for families who attend aftercare and need to plan for materials. If your student attends an all day program, I suggest that they bring the classroom supplies I provided at the materials pick-up with them daily to be sure they have the materials needed. Please do not complete the afternoon assignments before 12:00.
Class Mascot:
The vote is in…. We officially have a class mascot! Drum roll please……
Mrs. Winger’s Wolverines!
I am on the lookout for a kid friendly cartoon wolverine image (animal not X-man character). If you happen to run across one, please share it with me. The image will be used here and there throughout the year.
Literably:
Here is some information about our reading assessment program for this year, Literably. I will be taking part in a Literably training during our in-service day on September 4. I will have more information for you about the timing of this assessment soon.
District Calendar:
The district calendar has been updated. Parent-teacher conferences will now be held from October 1-9. Please note that we have a staff development day on Friday, September 4th. Then Monday, September 7th is Labor Day. There will be no work assigned on those two days.
Vista Views from Mrs. Bailey + Home and School Club Communication:
What a week! It was a short one, but action packed. I would like to thank you all for attending our 1-1 meet and greets. I really enjoyed getting to talk with each of you and also seeing you at the materials pick up. I look forward to our partnership this year. I have a lot more information to share with you.
Math Google Assessment:
Your student will be taking a math assessment through Google Forms on Wednesday. If your child needs help reading the questions that is okay, but please do not answer any of the questions for them or show them how to answer any of the questions.
Google Classroom- Turning in Work:
The 2nd grade team has been working hard on planning the assignments for the coming week. Please check Google Classroom daily for your student’s assignments. I would love for them to click “Turn in” when tasks are completed. It will help me keep track of their progress. If there is no “turn in” option, there may be a “submit” option. Thank you for your help and support!
Zoom Calls:
Daily Morning Meeting Call: Monday-Friday 8:30-9:00
Afternoon Closing Call: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 2:00-2:30 *No Wednesday
Please help your child get into the routine of joining these calls. It is part of their required instructional minutes for the day. The link and password are found in the Google Classroom in the "Zoom Room."
