Each family has a different philosophy on the topic of homework. I'd like to respect that and work with you to create an ideal program for your child. Students will be highly encouraged to complete daily recommended assignments but are not required to.The Eureka Squared math homework workbook is called Apply, and it will be sent home with your child. Check out this USD Parent Resource here. Families will be informed each week in my newsletter on Thursdays which lessons will be covered each day the next week. Families who are interested in providing these homework pages for their child can then assign, review, and check over the work on their own. Completion will not be monitored by the teacher unless you would like me to collect it. In the Back to School Google Form, please let me know if you'd like your child to turn in their homework at school each day for accountability. It is not necessary, but I'm happy to support you in this way if it is helpful.
On a daily basis, your child will be assigned reading for at least 20 minutes.
Sometimes your child may need to complete unfinished work at home.
On rare occasions, your child may be encouraged to work on projects at home.
I also recommend the online programs Happy Numbers, Lexia, and Quill for extra math and reading/grammar practice at home.
For the safety of students, Room 9 is a nut free community. Any product, especially food, containing nuts is not allowed in the classroom. Families are not allowed to pack nut products for snack or lunch. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our site administration and nurse.
CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS
Your child's birthday will be acknowledged in class and your child will receive a birthday bracelet. Ms. Leamons has asked that families NOT bring in birthday treats/food due to the increase in food allergies and sensitivities. Goodie bags are acceptable, but not necessary. I would like to offer any birthday child the opportunity to read aloud to the class their favorite picture book on their birthday. That would be a treat for all of us!
Please call the office at the 24 Hr Attendance line: (408) 264-8837 and email me at heacockm@unionsd.org when your child will be absent. I will have a folder of missed work that can be ready to be picked up in the office at your convenience. If the absence will be 3 days or longer, please let the office and teacher know at least TWO weeks in advance for Independent Studies. Many thanks!
