This is a review from the POMs activity in class, color each diagram and fill out the box:
Rotation: planets spin around an axis
1 rotation of Earth = 1 day
Revolution: moving in an orbit around an object
1 orbit of Earth around the Sun = 1 year
Tilt: The angle of the axis a planet spins around. Earth has a tilt of 23.5°
Use the FOSS: Planetary Science text page 131 and your POMs activity to fill out the table for June 21 (For D, check out Alpena, Michigan latitude 45° N)
What is solar angle and how does it affect seasons?
Fill in the blanks and add arrows that are proportional to the size of the force for each diagram (larger force should have a larger arrow)
All objects with mass in the universe attract each other through gravitational force.
MASS
If the mass of the object increases, the gravitational force increases.
If the distance between objects increases, the gravitational force decreases.
DISTANCE
Fill out the table and add force arrows showing the direction and size of the force between the Sun and Jupiter and the Sun and Earth. In the space below the table, summarize the text in bullet points.
Draw the Diagram below in your foldable.
All mass in the universe is attracted to all other mass in the universe.
We have mass so there is a pulling attractive force between us and the smallest of objects in the universe.
We do not notice these pulls because they are so weak compared with the attraction towards Earth.
If Earth had the same mass as Jupiter, the Fg would be 2.5x greater!
