ALL ABOUT the Makerspace

Welcome to Alta Vista's STEAM program! The purpose of the STEAM program is to bring hands-on, inquiry-based lessons and activities to students that integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and math. In our program, students become critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and innovators. Our students will be inquirers and collaborators, working together to complete standards-based activities in a project-based learning environment. Students are encouraged to F.A.I.L. (first attempts in learning) and learn from their mistakes, developing their abilities to persevere through challenging tasks.

The goal for our STEAM program is for all students to have fun and develop their ability to cooperate and collaborate with each other while engaging in problem finding & solving, designing, creating, and building. Students are practice communication skills through their discussions with each other and through sharing their work and reflections using tools such as Seesaw and DoInk (green screen), Google Drive or blogs.
