At the start of each school year, every middle school student receives their own spiral-bound planner. I love using these planners because they help students stay organized and on top of their work. Each week, I meet with my classes to go over upcoming assignments and assessment dates, and we make sure they’re recorded in the planner. If there are any digital assignments, I’ll share links on Google Classroom to make things easier.
I typically assign homework twice a week in both Science and Math. The goal is to reinforce what we’ve covered in class and give students a chance to practice the material. If anyone has questions or needs a little extra help, they’re always welcome to come see me during our W.I.N. ("What I Need") block. Plus, I host a Homework Club on Thursdays from 3:00–4:15pm for students who need some quiet time or extra support.
In addition to regular homework, Math students are also expected to spend about 30 minutes each week working on iReady MyPath at home. MyPath is great because it tailors lessons based on your child’s progress, so each student gets exactly what they need to grow at their own pace.
