  Meet the Teacher:

My Philosophy of Teaching

I believe my role as a teacher is to be more of a facilitator rather than a leader.  A “Hands-on, Minds-on” approach to teaching allows the students to attain a deep understanding of the material presented while they learn to collaboratively work with their peers and adults.  I will use the prior knowledge of the students to design educational experiences to fit their needs. Using multi-sensory methods of teaching, I will reach every child’s individualized way of learning.

I believe an organized classroom helps promote learning.  I will provide a safe, supportive classroom environment where taking risks are encouraged and it is okay to make mistakes.  I believe that the students will establish a sense of ownership in the classroom by creating a feeling of a school family.  Developing rituals and routines and giving choices helps build mutual trust and respect for each other and will create appropriate discipline in our classroom.

Parent involvement is another strong feeling that I have as an educator.  I believe that it is my responsibility to take the initiative in creating trust by extending invitations to parents to become an active partner in the education of their child.  Not just at school, but with activities at home. This opens the door for sharing expectations for the child’s learning and gaining understanding of similarities and differences that may exist in the educational agendas of home and school.  I will make certain that the communication process be frequent, clear, and two- way.

I will do my best to promote a positive self-image in students.  I will make the greatest possible effort to know each student as an individual.  I will attempt to become more knowledgeable of the different racial, cultural, and religious groups and demonstrate the respect and understanding they deserve.  I will strive to be the best teacher I can be and to spread my enthusiasm and motivation to each and every student that walks through my door.
