The final conference of the Croatian Science Foundation’s GinkoBiFlav project was held at University North on 15 May as part of Connect Week. The conference was attended by approximately 50 researchers. During the event, project leader Associate Professor Dunja Šamec presented the FunkNusNFood project.

For students of the Department of Food Technology at University North, Marija Cafuk, President of the Varaždin County Association of Agricultural Organizations and a guardian of Varaždin cabbage seeds; Marija Herceg, Secretary of the Association; Mara Bogović, PhD, from the Directorate for Professional Support to Agricultural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; and Marija Kuzminski from the Varaždin County Chefs Association gave a lecture on Varaždin cabbage.

They also demonstrated how to prepare sarma using Varaždin cabbage, which is protected by the EU Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).

Students Iva Škrlec and Michaela Zrnić presented the results of carried out as part of the FunkNusNFood project at the 9th Student Congress on Health Protection – SANITAS 2026.  Their poster presentations focused on the following topics:

31.03.2026., Koprivnica, Croatia

The owners of Agro Altera, producers of Ludbreg horseradish, gave a lecture on horseradish production to students of the Department of Food Technology at University North. The students also had the opportunity to taste and conduct a sensory evaluation of horseradish-based sauces.

10.11.2026., Varaždin, Croatia

A ceremonial signing of the project agreement was held at University North. The agreement was presented to the project leader, Associate Professor Dunja Šamec, in the presence of the Rector of University North, Professor Damir Vusić, and the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation, Professor Marin Milković.
