TECLA TErra CLima Ambiente - DISAT
MIUR - Dipartimento di Eccellenza 2018-2022 e 2023-2027
The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident and their socioeconomic consequences are becoming less sustainable. Temperatures are rising, polar caps and glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, river flows are changing, and several extreme weather events are intensifying. All of this makes climate change a matter of utmost urgency from a social and political standpoint, and the discussion related to it must be based on solid scientific grounds. A thorough understanding of the geological processes that control the evolution of climate is a necessary pathway to recognize and quantify anthropic effects and to plan effective mitigation actions.
The main objective of the TECLA (TErra CLima e Ambiente) Project is the integration of classical concepts and methods of geology, based on the description of natural phenomena, with the most advanced monitoring and modeling techniques to thoroughly understand the dynamics the climate system and to identify concrete remedies.
