Our social activity will take place on Wednesday afternoon on the Como lake, which is one of the marvels of Northern Italy...
Buses will pick us up from campus at 3pm and take us to Lierna, on the lake. They will pick us up after dinner around 10.30pm
A few ideas for your time on the lake:
Lierna itself has a beautiful beach called "Riva Bianca". Swim in the lake, get an ice cream, walk around, etc.
Varenna is the next village north of Lierna and is a prime tourist destination on the lake. The two are connected by a short train ride, like 10 minutes. The Lierna train station is here; you can check train times and buy tickets on the main Italian train website (from: Lierna, to: Varenna). Above Varenna there's a 12th century castle called "Castello di Vezio." Going there from the village takes about 15 minutes on foot (though it's uphill!). The view from the tower is amazing: you can see the central region of the lake (where it divides into three branches) with the Swiss mountains on the back. The entrance to the castle is 5 EUR. Villa Monastero is another popular sight in Varenna
From Lierna one can also take the ferry to Bellagio (the real one, not Vegas) which is another amazing place, at the very center of the lake, where the lake divides into three branches. Check the times on this website and make sure to be back in Lierna by 7.30pm for dinner.
Dinner is booked for 7.30pm at restaurant Sottovento in Lierna. The buses will take us back to Milan after dinner, leaving around 10.30pm.
