Gianluigi Ciocca has published more than 100 papers in international journals and conferences on topics related to image processing understanding and retrieval, video analysis, pattern recognition, and machine learning algorithms. His algorithms for image retrieval and management have been exploited in commercial products of leading companies.
Simone Santini was one of the early researchers in the days of yore of Content-Based Retrieval, and was one of the authors of the “early years” paper that was mentioned in the introduction. He has authored some influential papers in the area and is credited with creating the concept of semantic gap. He is currently interested in how the spread of information in social networks affect the needs served by CBIR and in how new machine learning techniques can be used to serve these needs.
Raimondo Schettini is a full professor at the University of Milano Bicocca (Italy). He is head of the Imaging and Vision Lab. He has been a team leader in many research projects and published more than 300 refereed papers and several patents about image and video analysis, retrieval, and classification. He is a fellow of the International Association of Pattern Recognition. He has been general/program Chair of several international workshops and conferences, and associate /guest editor for many international journals.
