The Doctoral Program in Analysis of Social and Economic Processes (ASEP) is one of the two doctoral programs in the Department of Sociology and Social Research of the University of Milano-Bicocca.
The ASEP Doctoral Program aims at training students for both scholarly and applied social research. Upon completion of the program, students will have the knowledge and skills required to design and carry out, in academic or non-academic settings, conceptually sound and methodologically rigorous empirical research on social and socioeconomic phenomena.
The ASEP Doctoral Program takes three years to complete. The first year is organized around the coursework period, the qualifying paper, and the preparation of the dissertation prospectus. The second and third years are dedicated to researching and writing the doctoral dissertation.
The ASEP Doctoral Program is managed by an international Steering Committee chaired by the Director of the ASEP Doctoral Program and comprised of faculty from the Universities of Milano-Bicocca, Barcelona Pompeu Fabra (Spain), New York (USA), Sciences Po (Paris), and São Paulo (Brazil). The members of the Steering Committee are a diverse group of scholars representing a wide range of disciplines, research interests, theoretical stances, and methodological approaches. Such variety of expertise provides students with a rich academic experience and a broad array of opportunities to pursue their research and career interests.
The ASEP Doctoral Program has an international vocation. All activities are carried out in English, so that they are open to students from all countries. Moreover, students are required to spend 6 to 12 months abroad as part of their training and research.
