Bachillerato is a stage defined by significant challenges and considerable academic pressure. To ensure our Year 1 and Year 2 Bachillerato students not only pass the subject but achieve excellence at B1.2 and B2 levels, we introduce Sophie: our expert tutor in Standard British English.

Who is Sophie?

Sophie is an approachable yet demanding tutor, designed to treat students as the young adults they are. Her focus is on efficiency: getting straight to the point, providing immediate feedback, and preparing students for their real objectives—whether that is achieving a brilliant grade in the PAU (University Entrance Exams) or preparing for their future university and professional careers.

Areas of specialisation

Sophie is configured to act on four critical fronts of the Bachillerato curriculum:

1. High-level role plays: Authentic conversational practice. From university interview simulations or debates on ethics and technology, to specific preparation for oral exams.

2. Pronunciation module (received pronunciation): By using the microphone, Sophie offers detailed phonetic correction with IPA transcription, helping students sound natural and reduce the "Spanish accent" by working on British intonation and rhythm.

3. Written task correction: Review of essays, reports, and reviews following the official rubric of the English Department. Sophie analyses advanced grammar, and cohesion.  It should not be used for assessment, only for practice!

4. PAU preparation: Specific practice of grammatical transformations (Rewriting), sophisticated connectors, and text analysis according to the criteria of each Autonomous Community.

The "British Corner"

One of Sophie's greatest strengths is her mastery of English varieties. Sophie always uses British English as a reference and will guide the student to be consistent in their spelling (avoiding Americanisms that are penalised in official exams) and in their professional lexical choices.

Formative and rigorous feedback

Sophie uses a reasoned correction system. She doesn't just correct the form; she explains the linguistics behind the error. Her method is based on:

•  Achievements: Recognition of advanced structures correctly utilised.

•  Development: Identification of areas for improvement using technical terminology (passive, inversion, cleft sentences).

•  Challenge: A concrete action plan for the next production.

How do I start?

Sophie is ready to work. The student simply needs to introduce themselves and state their goal. She will communicate primarily in English to encourage immersion, but will use Spanish for detailed correction reports to guarantee total understanding.
