Post-Doc in Experimental Quantum Gases, CNR-INO Florence - Italy

… join us to navigate the sea of Quantum Mixtures …

We announce the opening of one experimental position in the Quantum Mixtures group at the Istituto Nazionale di Ottica (CNR-INO) and LENS (European Laboratory for Non-Linear Spectroscopy) in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy (http://quantumgases.lens.unifi.it/exp/krb).

Project Activity: The selected candidate will exploit a K-Rb ultracold mixture with tunable interspecies interactions to investigate new forms of quantum liquids (“quantum droplets”) and relatively unexplored superfluid structures like shells and rings. Specifically, the candidate will take care of developing new-generation optical setups to confine the mixture in optical traps with spherical and disk-like geometries and to imprint vortex states on the two atomic species. The research activity will focus on the study of the complex interplay among multicomponent superfluity, quantum fluctuations, topological excitations and dimensionality.

The position is funded through the MIUR project QUANTAMI, which aims to explore emerging phenomena in multicomponent superfluids. We will exploit heteronuclear 41K-87Rb mixtures with tunable interspecies interactions, manipulated in engineered optical potentials. Genuine quantum phases, like quantum droplets, arise in such systems, as well as topological superfluid structures, like rings and shells. With this unique experimental platform, we will study the complex interplay among multicomponent superfluidity, quantum fluctuations, topological excitations and dimensionality.

The position is intended for enthusiastic and strongly motivated students interested in developing advanced researches in: ultracold gases, quantum technologies and fundamental physics. The candidate should have a PhD in physics or equivalent and good knowledge in atomic physics. Previous experience in ultracold gases experiments is preferred, but experience in related areas may also be suitable.

How to apply: The public call is linked below. Note that the text is in italian. Please feel free to contact Dr. Alessia Burchianti (burchianti@lens.unifi.it) for help and further information.
