We are excited to share our latest research, now published in the Science of the Total Environment!
The study is based on experiments on flow interruption in columns for salinized peaty aquitard from the Po Delta, using synthetic rainwater to replicate sub-irrigation practices and their effect on the leaching of trace elements.

The study evaluates the groudwater dynamics of a coastal aquifer within the Po River lowland via time series analysis on integrated field measurements.
55° World Earth Day
22th April 2025
Our Power, Our Planet
The theme "Our Power, Our Planet" is the calling for everyone to unite around renewable energy to triple clean electricity by 2030.
Preventing energy waste is an equally urgent imperative for everyone on Earth: and one of the simplest and most immediate ways we have is to prevent food waste, to preserve the energy used in food production and in the supply chain that brings it to our table. The 'hidden' energy costs behind food production and procurement are infinitely higher than we might suspect.

Save our glaciers
The theme of the year 2025 is "Glacier Preservation", due to its faster melting. It is a priority, due its importance for the agriculture, industry, clean energy production, healthy ecosystems. The glacial preservation aims to tackle the Climate Change and the water extreme events.
Key messages for World Water Day 2025
glaciers are melting faster than ever: our frozen world is shrinking due to the Global Warming, making the water cycle extreme;
glacial retreat threatens devastation: floods, droughts, landslides and sea level rise, and damaging ecosystems;
glacier preservation is a survival strategy: we must work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and manage meltwater more sustainably for people and the planet.

The work shows the drivers of soil salinity highlighting the capacity of peaty soils deposited in transitional environments to store large amount of soluble salts and heavy metals potentially available for plant uptake.
World Earth Day
22th April 2024
Planet VS Plastics
The World Earth Day was born in 22th April 1970, when when twenty million Americans, led by environmental activist and US Senator Gaylord Nelson, took to the streets to demonstrate against industrial pollution, loss of biodiversity and other environmental issues.
The theme this year is "Planet VS Plastics", established by ErthDay.org (https://www.earthday.org/) to aim:
"a 60% reduction in plastic production by 2040 and the ultimate aim of building a plastic-free future for future generations".
Key messages for World Earth Day 2024:
increase widespread awareness of the health risks of plastics;
gradual remove of disposable plastics,
promote to an important UN treaty on plastic pollution;
eliminate the fast-fashion.

Water for Peace
The World water Day is the annual United Nations observance to celebrate the importance of freshwater on 22th May since 1992.
It seeks to focus attention on the global water crisis and raise awareness of the people living without access to safe water. The theme is in line with the targets of Suistanable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation ofr all by 2030.
This year the theme of the World Water Day is "Leveraging Water for Peace" to underscore the important role of water in promoting harmony and preventing conflict.
Key messages for World Water Day 2024:
water can create peace or trigger conflicts;
prosperity and peace depend on water to promote the bilateral transboundary water cooperation between government;
water can get us out of crisis, promoted by UN water conventions.
