Telefónica is the research and development company of Telefónica Group. It was founded in 1988 and its mission is to contribute to the Group's competitiveness and modernity through technological innovation. Telefónica is one of the first private R&D centers in Spain in terms of activity and resources and is the first company on the continent by number of European research projects in which it participates. The main asset of Telefónica is its staff, which mostly comes from university graduates from 18 nationalities. It currently collaborates with technological leaders and many organizations from 40 countries; including more than 150 universities around the world. The Telefónica Research group was created in 2006 with the aim to carry out mid to long-term research on several technological areas of interest to the Telefónica Group.
