Ana Paula Bortoleto is a civil engineer by training (2003, State University of Campinas) with a Master of Engineering degree (2006, the University of Tokyo) and also a PhD in Environmental Engineering (2009, the University of Tokyo). She has worked as a research fellow at the University of Sheffield (2011, EU FP7 Marie Curie Fellowship) and the Max-Planck Institute for Human Development (2013, Alexander von-Humboldt Fellowship). In August 2004 she took up her appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Infrastructure and Environment at the University of Campinas. Her work is concerned with understanding pro-environmental behaviour concerning waste generation, focusing on everyday life and the socio-technical systems that shape it. The research engages with psychological theories, life cycle assessment, technology innovation, water-energy-food nexus, and literature on governing structures and processes. Her research and writing have covered waste prevention, climate change, sustainability and environmental, water-energy-food nexus, economic and social impacts of waste management.

His research focuses on sustainable consumption towards reducing associated Greenhouse gas emissions, under life-cycle assessment (LCA) and behavioural approach, aiming to achieve the 1.5 Degrees target from the Paris Agreement.
