Who am I? To answer that, let's start with a bit of geography...
I was born in Taiwan and now live in Italy and am a Tenured Senior Researcher of Applied Linguistics in English, at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies, the University of Calabria (green stars)
The orange squares show where I lived as a child. My family lived in Australia, Malaysia, Libya and Malawi, since my father was a diplomat (when a university student heard this, he turned to his friends and said: "poor people... they had to move so her father could get a diploma...")
From Malawi, I went to the USA for university and obtained degrees in Biology and Psychology from Muskingum University in Ohio. I stayed in Ohio to pursue a PhD in Neurobiology at the Northeastern Ohio Medical University section of Kent State University. The other red squares in Israel (Weizmann Institute) and Arizona (University of Arizona) are where I did post-doctoral research in biomedicine. Then, in my second life as an English teacher, I completed an MA-TEFL at the University of East Anglia in the UK (red squares).
So, a one-sentence answer to "who I am" might be:
"Someone who has lived in several places, enjoyed the food of all, completed one life in biomedicine and is now settled into a second life in Calabria, where the food is wonderful, nature is God-sent, researching how the brain learns (or not), through "English+STEM education."
