Biografia

Dr. Attilio Naccarato is an analytical chemist and holds the position of Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Calabria. At this university, he has thought the courses “Instrumental Analytical Chemistry Laboratory” and “Analytical Methods for Environment and Health”. Previously he was a researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Pollution Research of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-IIA).

He received his BSc and MSc with honors from the University of Calabria and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with a thesis on "Traceability of Food Products by High Tech Methodologies of Mass Spectrometry". His postdoctoral experience has involved him in numerous projects and collaborations, including with the group of Prof. Pawliszyn (University of Waterloo, Canada), where he was a postdoctoral fellow.

Dr. Naccarato has given his scientific participation in national and international research projects on exposomics, also financially supported by the European Commission, with a special focus on the monitoring of mercury in environmental matrices and biota. He has also been the scientific responsible for metrological projects for the traceable quantification of environmental mercury.

Dr. Naccarato has supervised the activities of undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral students. He is also a referee for numerous international peer-reviewed journals, project proposals, and serves as an Associate Editor on the editorial boards of Chemical Papers (Springer), Separations (MDPI), Frontiers in Analytical Science - specialty environmental analysis (Frontiers Media), for which he has evaluated more than 150 papers. He has also guest-edited special issues on Separations and Environments.

Attività Scientifica

Dr. Naccarato has extensive research experience using MS-based analytical techniques and green sample preparation strategies. The main topics of his research include:

-          Method development for the analysis of contaminants and markers in environmental, food, and clinical matrices using mass spectrometry techniques, multivariate optimization approaches, and microextraction techniques such as SPME and MEPS.

-          Exposomics studies based on GC-MS/MS analysis of volatile and semi-volatile compounds and ICP-MS analysis of elements in food, environmental, and biota matrices.

Traceability of agricultural and food products through identification of chemical markers, such as multi-element profiling and the support of chemometric techniques.
