Mario Alviano (https://alviano.net/) is Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Calabria (Italy) with over 15 years of teaching experience, including 9 years on Knowledge Representation and Reasoning and 10 years on Secure Software Design, both taught in English at the master level.
He is widely appreciated in the KR and ASP communities for his ability to explain complex topics with clarity and to connect foundational aspects with practical applications. He has given invited seminars at several European universities, received academic awards, and regularly presents his research at international venues.
He was responsible for an ASP course at ESSAI 2023, 2024, and 2025, which received highly positive student feedback, and has also taught intensive lecture series abroad, including a one-week AI course in the Philippines (2019) and an advanced 40-hour course on programming and distributed systems (2021).
His teaching approach blends theory with engaging formats such as short videos and “pills” for cybersecurity students, and he is the main developer of ASP Chef, an innovative framework for conditional reasoning and visual exploration of ASP programs.
