The AESOP Thematic Group “New Technologies and Planning” invites contributions to the workshop “Artificial Intelligence and Planning”, to be held at the University of Basilicata (Matera, Italy), 17–19 June 2026.
We welcome oral contributions addressing, but not limited to:
theoretical principles and conceptual frameworks
methods and approaches for AI-supported planning
tools and applications in planning and design
social, ethical, and governance implications of AI in planning
Participants may propose the format of their presentation, indicating their preference in the registration form:
5 minutes | short presentation (insights / emerging ideas)
10 minutes (standard presentations)
15+ minutes (extended advanced contributions)
The workshop is designed to encourage discussion and exchange; therefore, presentations will be followed by collective debate within each session.

The participation is free of charge. The meeting is open to up to 30 participants in presence. Priority will be given to members of the AESOP Thematic Group “New Technologies and Planning”, other AESOP members, and applicants submitting a contribution. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Acceptance of applications is at the discretion of the Organizing Committee and will be confirmed via email within 5 working days of submission. In reviewing applications, the Committee may also consider the relevance of the proposed contribution to the workshop themes, as well as the overall balance and diversity of participants across research, education, and professional practice. The Committee’s decision is final.
