Please note, while we tried our best to curate clothing items that matched the description of survivors' outfits, finding items that matched identically wasn't always possible. As you look over this exhibit, please understand that each outfit is a representation of what an individual was wearing, and not perfect recreations.
Wool pullover with a unicorn on it, a pink Minnie Mouse coat, pink glittery scarf, hat, and gloves.
"Face barely visible. Looked like a pink balloon. He didn't do it, but he sat next to, grabbed tights... followed for months, waiting in the bus, at school, outside the craft store..."
A black hoodie with a red bear printed on the front for a wrestling team and black leggings.
"It happened four times at a summer camp with one of the high school counselors. I wasn't even in middle school yet. A girl that I thought was my friend kept locking me in rooms with him. It ruined my life."
A gray t-shirt dress that went to my knees and an orange plaid flannel.
"I was 18, a freshman in college. He was my friend and I trusted him. He choked me and threw me down. I can still see “5:44” on my pink and black watch as I waited for my rape to be over. He took something from me I will never get back."
Blue floral flannel pajamas.
"I was a child, when it started. I was also very scared to speak out. I have gained courage to speak out during my time at UNI."
A wine-purple Harry Potter shirt, jean shorts, and ankle socks.
"I was 16, he was 18. We were watching a movie in his basement when his hand moved from holding mine to sliding up my thigh. He pinned me down, kissed me non-consensually, and groped me under the clothes. More would have happened if I didn't get away."
Blue polo & khakis with tennis shoes.
"I was molested by a priest in 2nd grade. I sat facing him for confession, and he cut me off. He began to tell a story as his hand caressed in my inner thigh and groin for 10 minutes. I never learned his name. I only realized what happened 20 years later."
Pink children's dress with white polka dots, white tights, and nice black shoes.
"From the ages of 2-10, my great uncle and I would "play our game." He would take me somewhere private and set me on his lap. He would then bounce me to the tune of Pop goes the weasel."
Purple junior mini skirt with printed flowers and a white t-shirt with a basket of kittens graphic.
"I don't have one outfit because it happened multiple times. These clothes were my favorites to wear when I was 7-8, how old I was when I was assaulted."
Red striped bottoms and a green long sleeve.
"I was sexually assaulted on December 25, 2023 by a family member. I was having family Christmas on my dad’s side and decided to take a nap and woke up to someone on top of me. I was wearing matching Christmas pajamas with my sisters."
A long black dress, with no sleeves.
"I was 15. I was out taking photos when a man on a motorbike kept staring, he drove past 6 times and he started making sexual actions at me and finally stopped and approached me. I’m in court against him."
Standard fishnet tights, platform heels, and some sort of thong or one piece lingerie set.
"I was wearing fishnets and lingerie. The stigma around SW says that I was seeking sexual attention; even though that's partially true, that stigma led a customer to believe that my 'no' was invalid. My love for performing was not an unconditional 'yes'."
A t-shirt, black velvet baggy pajama pants, and matching zip up hoodie.
"I was 14 and trusted him like a brother. I stayed silent for years to protect him—until I learned he hurt my friends too. Nine years later, I’m finally in therapy to heal and feel comfortable being touched again."
