OTMs are “Of the Months” which are a way to recognize people, groups, and programs on campus. This recognition starts on your campus level and can possibly reach regional and national levels.
There are two types of OTMs (individual and program) that have a number of categories which include a person or program that you would like to nominate. Individual OTMs are a maximum of 600 words and should describe the outstanding accomplishments of an individual within that specific month. Program OTMs allow for various types of programs on campus (which occur within a specific month) to be nominated. These OTMs have specific sections with individual word maximums.
OTMs are a great way to recognize and appreciate those who go above and beyond!
Ten Tips for Writing Terrific OTMs
Quality Over Quantity- Writing meaningful and specific OTMs is more important than writing 100 basic ones
Quotes-Use quotes about the person or program for your OTM
Get Specific- Use specific details when describing the person/program
Make it Original- The goal is to recognize someone who is going above and beyond, so put some heart into and make them feel appreciated
Recognize Rather Than Compete- Write the OTM to recognize, not to ensure another win on a nomination.
Proofread- Make sure you check your spelling and grammar. You always want to put your best foot forward
Collaborate- Work together with others in order to recognize the person/program best and not have multiple of the same nomination
Don’t Be Tardy- OTMs are due at 11:59pm the 1st of each month
