I’ve always believed that your product is only as good as your supplier. That belief comes from years of seeing the opposite happen in the window coverings industry — big promises, cheap shortcuts, and customers left disappointed.

My name is Nathaniel Gilmour, and Uni-Shade is my way of doing things differently. I grew up surrounded by manufacturing — my grandfather started a plastic injection molding company in the 1990s, and from a young age, I learned that quality starts long before a product is sold.

In the 2010s, I found my calling in window coverings. I worked my way through sales, installations, and supplier sourcing, seeing every step of the process up close. Over the years, I kept running into the same problem: suppliers who cut corners or couldn’t deliver what they promised. I knew I could do better.

Now, in 2025, I’m taking the leap. Uni-Shade is just starting its own manufacturing facility right here in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, producing solid PVC California shutters and, in time, our own custom blinds. We’re starting small, using the best materials we can find, and building a company based on honesty, transparency, and craftsmanship.

I’m not here to be another name in the industry. I’m here to set a new standard — one where customers get exactly what they were promised, when they were promised it, with no excuses and no compromises.
