Dr. Heather Heenehan is a Visiting Assistant Lecturer in Environmental Studies. She received her Ph.D. in Marine Science and Conservation and Master of Environmental Management from Duke University, spending most of her time at the Duke University Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, NC. She spent more than a year after finishing her Ph.D. working as a postdoctoral researcher at the NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center in the Passive Acoustics Group led by Dr. Sofie Van Parijs. Dr. Heenehan's research focuses on acoustics as a tool to learn about the ocean and the animals that live there, with a focus on soundscape and marine mammals.
Quinn Lawrence is a Global Studies Major and Climate Change Studies minor at the University of New England. She is from Saxtons River, Vermont. She is taking this class as part of her climate change studies minor to learn more about pollution and the affects it has on the environment.
Alison Higgins is a Senior at the University of New England, majoring in Ocean Studies and Marine Affairs. Alison is from Billerica, Massachusetts. Her interest in Marine preservation, conservation and restoration prompted Alison to learn more about pollution and its impact on the Marine environment.
Liam Sullivan is a senior majoring in Aquaculture and Aquarium Sciences with a minor in Environmental Studies. He is taking this class in order to gain a better understanding of what happens to the different types of garbage once it enters the environment as well as the ways it can be prevented.
Hannah Buckley is a senior from Leominster, Massachusetts majoring in environmental science and minoring in climate change studies. She is taking this class to learn more about pollution in Maine and is concerned about how much pollution and man-made debris enters the food that is meant for human consumption. The most beautiful place she has ever been is in the back-country of Utah's snow covered Wasatch Mountains.
Emily Murad is a senior environmental studies major with minors in sociology and climate change studies. She is from Hanson, Massachusetts. She is taking this class to learn more about pollution and excited about the hands on nature of the projects that the class will be working on. The most beautiful place she has ever been is a tie between the Grand Canyon and the Kenyan Rain Forest.
Kyle Beem is an Environmental Science major with a focus on wildlife from Chicopee, Massachusetts. A current junior with a graduation date set for 2019. After a semester abroad, the most beautiful place Kyle has been to is the Sahara Desert. Kyle is taking this class to learn about pollution, its impacts on the world around us, and to develop new ideas for dealing with this problem.
Aurora Diaz is a Sustainability and Business major with a minor in Climate Change Studies from Barrington, Rhode Island.
Courtney Gautreau is a senior Animal Behavior major with a minor in Marine Biology. She is from the coast of Camden, Maine. She is taking this class as she is very interested in the protection of the environment, with a particular focus on marine life and marine protection. The most beautiful place she has ever been is Ambergris Caye, Belize.
Rosaria Karis is from Billerica, Massachusetts, atending UNE to pursue a degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Climate Change Studies.
Heather Baron is an Environmental Studies major with a minor in Climate Change. She is from Litchfield, NH where her passion for the environment first started. She is a senior this year and has had the privilege of traveling to Kenya and Ireland while at UNE. She has interned with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and hopes to learn more about pollution and how to better manage it through this course.
Roxanne James is from Providence, Rhode Island. She is attending UNE to attain a environmental science and secondary education degree.
Barrett Saint-Amour is an Environmental Science Major and GIS Minor from Yarmouth, Maine
