Before starting with my college writings and texts I just wanted to add a sample piece. The piece I have added is from my Junior year in high school. This is just one writing that means a lot to me and I feel represents my writing from my early years. It is a very important piece to me and I hold it very dear.
A little about my history with writing during my years in school.
My writing I have attached here is very roughly written but, it is filled with emotions about who inspires me most in life.
Create a story using these 3 words: cat, window, button.
This is a poem written using the line: the most important thing about ___ is.
This is a quick write inspired by Jason Reynolds. He asked us to write about what we would frame if we could frame one thing, why, and where would we put it?
Inspiration, Fiction Fun, Family, and Write, Right, Rite were all quick writes that I have added to here. I have chosen these quick writes because I was very passionate about all of them. All four of them bring a lot of different emotions to me when thinking about them and when I was writing them. This shows me that I write with a lot of emotions. When given a topic the first thing my brain goes to is emotion and what I can recall.
Revison:
The feedback that was most helpful for me was going through and adding clarifying details. It is hard to where I know the story in my head, though others don't. My piece did not really change yet it rather adjusted. I added more details and refined small misconnections that were happening to the reader. If I had more time I would like to add more back story and details to build up to this story. I feel like it would have made it feel less rushed and flowed a bit more.
This is the final draft of my small moment piece.
Overall I really enjoyed writing all of these pieces on here. My favorite genres of the ones we wrote from were poetry and narrative. I like these the best because I can recall on emotions and past events to really write a powerful story. Like with my quick writes I am a very passionate person and it is hard to keep my opinion out of my writing. Thus making informational text more challenging for me.
When looking at all the writing we did over this time, the piece I am most proud of would be my important person writing. It has the most deep meaning to me and I think about it every day. Though it was roughly written and not edited, and we have grown over the course of this time, I still find myself the most proud of it. It truly represents me and how much emotion I write with. I achieved my goals of stretching my writing brain. We did a lot of different types of writing that I don't usually do, or even like to do, and it was one of my goals to expand my workings. It was great to be able to try new writing tricks and techniques that I can one day try with my students who wont all love writing. Currently I see myself struggling to go through the process of editing. I like to jump right from a rough draft to a final draft changing things as I go. It is one think that I really need to work on where I am going to need to help guide my students through this process as well. Taking the time to edit and revise is very important for all writings, big or small, and it is one of my next goals to work on. These writings reveal truly how much emotion and feelings I put into my writings. I used to think that my writing was just normal writing, but looking back at these I notice the attention to emotion and feeling that I put into these. My writing makes me feel confident to be a teacher, that I can do this. After learning all the different ways to teach writing and all the different approaches that can be taken to writing I am feeling much more confident. It also makes me realize just how much writing can connect with what is being done in all other subjects. It can be integrated into almost anything, and it is very flexible. A risk that I would say I took was stepping outside of my comfort zone. I have not always been very confident with persuasive or informational writings, so it was a step to look at it from a different view. That I was not writing in these genres for myself anymore. At this point I am writing in these genres to learn how to teach them to my students of the future.
