If you need to record a "talking head" video or interview someone, here are some tips for getting the most out of a very simple setup: a phone, some rubber bands, and a bright, quiet place to record.
Lighting Tip: More light is generally better. Large diffused light is most flattering. Bright, indirect sunlight through a large window sheer or a bright light bounced off of a wall, ceiling or through a translucent shade for example.
I don't recommend 4K for every-day use. Some editors will have trouble editing it. 1080p is fine for most purposes.Â
An external mic is great but not everyone has one. If you don't have an external mic, be sure that you are no more than 4 feet from the phone. Closer is better. The farther away you are, the worse it will sound.
A phone clamp isn't essential (see the top video) but it can be very useful and they're under $10.
A tripod also isn't necessary (again, top video) but a cheap tripod or selfie stick can be helpful.
