STARS BPC Braintrust Seminars

The STARS BPC Seminars is a webinar discussion series hosted by the STARS BPC Alliance on key topics pertaining to STARS and the collective work we do to broaden participation in computing. We bring people together to showcase experiences, share expertise, build capacity for BPC, and catalyze empirical research in broadening participation in computing. We address challenges to improve access across the computing education pipeline from K12- to college, university- and the professoriate. These seminars are invitation only, and the recordings are open to the public. They are designed for current (and aspiring!) computing students, researchers, faculty, and teachers. Moving Beyond Technical Standards: Engaging in Computer Science Education Research for All Students

Education research in the sciences has a history of providing dominant normed narratives about students and what works/doesn't work. This is unfortunate, and in a time when the demographics of our nation are shifting, broadening our education research practices is necessary. Given the nascent nature of computer science education when compared to more established fields, this presents a unique opportunity to adopt education research practices that consider students from all walks of life. In this webinar, we'll introduce you to key concepts and practical ways to advance your education research to meet the current and growing needs for quality education research in computer science.
