Oh the Places You'll Go: Navigating the Lurches and SLumps as an online learning professional in higher education

The "Why" Behind this Presentation

The last two years have been quite tumultuous - personally, professionally, mentally, professionally. For the presenters, the last two years have included reorganization, 15+ hiring committees, people leaving teams, team formation and brainstorming, and countless other opportunities and challenges. The underlying themes from the past two years around job happiness and making the right decisions for "you" are the focus of this presentation. Each topic represents a lesson learned, a conversation had, an epiphany, an observation made that we want to share with you.

The topics aren't meant to be prescriptive. They aren't meant to "tell you what to do." Instead they will hopefully spark some reflective thought that may help you get unstuck from that wretched "waiting place," solve a problem in your work life that has been bothering you for a long time, or give you the frame to make a change you've always wanted to make.

Sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side, it's just different, and sometimes you need different grass.

What are you good at?

Sometimes happiness only requires a reframe, not an exit.

Work towards "then" and "someday," but be okay with right now too.

Make decisions for the right reasons.

Maximize the opportunities you have right now to keep growing.

Is the story you're telling yourself true? Make sure to get some perspective.
