About Mike Corwin

I was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1942. After graduating from Tulane University on a Navy scholarship, I spent five years on active duty teaching physics at the Naval Nuclear Power School. After receiving a Ph.D. in physics from Georgia Tech, I taught Physics and Astronomy at UNC Charlotte for almost 40 years, retiring in 2014.

After retiring, I expanded my woodworking to include handmake small, decorative boxes made from exotic woods. I also began writing fiction and earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University. In November 2020, I published, Tallapoosa: A Southern Novel with SFK Publishing (available at Amazon and from the publisher directly). About the same time, I began seeing Connie Snipes, a professional artist, who began giving me painting lessons. It has become an obsession with me. We paint weekly plein air with the Gaston County Art Guild.
