Below are projects having to do with the Honda ATV. Multiple projects have been done in the past on the ATV. I was tasked with helping another PhD student. That PhD student graduated, so now I am tasked with multiple upcoming projects for the ATV and it will be part of my PhD dissertation as of now.

This vehicle is equipped with autonomous controls to control the vehicle (throttle, braking, steering).

Drone following an object/vehicle
The previous throttle control method did not provide a sufficient way to track the speed of the ATV and how far it has travelled. A magnetic encoder was designed for the ATV that provides pulse feedback. Using the pulses one can track the speed and distance variables needed for future autonomous movement.
Another project was started to design a graphical user interface (GUI) to display the feedback data from the encoder. This allows one to track how the ATV is performing during trials by verifying the distance and velocity data.

I worked under a graduating PhD student (Karim Erian) for this project. My role was to figure out a better way to control the throttle of the ATV for autonomous movement. Previous methods were unreliable and the movement was not consistent.
My design used the signal from the motor to the computer of the ATV. This signal was representative of digital pulses. The pulses increased as the throttle increased.
This method proved successful and can be seen in Karim's PhD dissertation video demos.
