My name is Juliette Malowany and this is my digital gallery for my research project, Photographing Roan Highlands: An Insight into Art and Land Conservation.

I'm originally from Atlanta, GA and I moved to Asheville, NC when I was 18 to attend the University of North Carolina Asheville. I am seeking a BFA in Art as well as the Sustainability Certificate. I was selected as a McCullough Fellow in May 2023 to pursue this project in an effort to combine art and sustainability. Art and environmental science have always been passions of mine and being able to combine them with this project has been incredibly rewarding. Roan Highlands is an extremely unique, beautiful, and fragile ecosystem which is why I selected it for this project. It is also a beloved tourist destination, hosting a section of the Appalachian Trail. Protecting wilderness and public lands is more important now than ever with the emerging climate crisis and ensuring that these beautiful natural areas are intact for future generations.
