UnBoxing Change operates as a Private, Invitation-Only, Student-led Benefit Corporation, offering real-world leadership opportunities for youth from Pre-K to College. The organization connects students to career pathways in sales, service, and hospitality, equipping them with essential professional and entrepreneurial skills for long-term success.

Through strategic partnerships with high schools, colleges, and youth organizations, UnBoxing Change helps students fulfill graduation requirements by integrating community service hours into meaningful, skill-building experiences. With hands-on training, student planners learn to leverage impact events as powerful tools for business development, developing strategic expertise in hospitality, sales, and service.

Since 2019, UnBoxing Change has collaborated with students and community organizations to host events and brainstorming sessions that strengthen neighborhoods, faith communities, and schools, fostering resilience and positive change throughout Maryland.

Our Impact

At UnBoxing Change, impact isn’t a buzzword—it’s a blueprint. We’ve designed a structure where Pre-K students track the weather as part of our Climate Change STEM initiative, middle schoolers lead real-time hospitality teams, and high schoolers manage compliance, quality control, and finance at live events.

Our college interns run logistics for multi-school collaborations, while our student businesses reinvest in justice-impacted youth. From Red Cross blood drives to the Bear Business Hospital, every initiative is rooted in purpose, power, and performance.

UnBoxing Change Classroom Playkits:

A New Era of Purposeful Play in Pre-K

UnBoxing Change is proud to announce the pilot launch of our Classroom Playkits, a new product line designed to enhance early childhood education through the power of play. These innovative kits are currently being tested in four Pre-K classrooms during the 2024–2025 school year, providing young learners with developmentally rich, hands-on experiences.

Rooted in the seven domains of early childhood education and fully aligned with Maryland Early Learning Standards, the playkits integrate movement, themed activities, and interactive games that nurture the whole child—cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically.

- This group will explore weather phenomena, engage in hands-on scientific discovery, and learn to share observations like budding meteorologists and reporters.
Neighborhood Watch (Social Studies Classroom Group 2):

This group will delve into community roles, responsibilities, and the importance of being a good citizen, fostering a sense of connection and responsibility.

What Each Classroom Group Includes:

Thematic Decor: Learning centers will be thoughtfully decorated to reflect each group’s theme, transforming the space into immersive environments that encourage daily play-based learning.
Open-Ended Question Prompts: Play prompts will spark curiosity and guide exploration, fostering critical thinking and creativity.

Lifesaving Leaders is a program that teaches youth to become leaders in their schools, families, and communities. Students will learn skills that will allow them to possibly prevent and/or manage impactful situations.

Life Saving Leadership Elementary/Middle

This program is designed to empower youth to become leaders within their schools, families, and communities by equipping them with the critical skills needed to handle impactful situations and foster community safety.

Program Highlights

Leadership Development: Enhancing self-awareness, communication, decision-making, and teamwork skills to create confident and capable leaders.
Conflict Resolution: Teaching de-escalation techniques, mediation skills, and strategies to foster respectful dialogue and resolve disputes.
Community Safety: Providing CPR/First Aid/AED certification, emergency preparedness training, and communication techniques to handle crises effectively.

Safe Summer Survival Skills

The Safe Summer Survival Series blends disaster preparedness training with essential life-saving CPR and first aid instruction. Through this program, students gain the skills needed to respond to natural disasters, develop personalized safety plans, and strengthen community resilience.

Participants engage in hands-on activities such as designing fire safety maps, leading safety demonstrations, and facilitating peer-to-peer workshops. The series features interactive sessions, expert-led instruction, and real-world applications that empower students to practice and demonstrate their knowledge in meaningful ways.

UnBoxing The Juvenile Justice League Highschool Leadership Team

The Juvenile Justice League (J.J.L.) is a flagship initiative of UnBoxing Change that mobilizes high school students across Maryland to lead community-driven programs at the intersection of justice reform, education, entrepreneurship, and social impact. Designed to support justice-impacted youth and promote empowerment, J.J.L. empowers students to reimagine leadership, develop marketable skills, and drive change in their schools and neighborhoods.

UnBoxing Change works with students from nine high schools, including Mervo, Mount Hebron, Towson, Forest Park, and others, providing them with real-world opportunities through a year-round calendar of high-impact events and career-building experiences.

Youth Activists Academy: Equips students with leadership roles in impact event management and Cross-School Collaborations. Students from Mount Hebron and Mervo collaborate on environmental science initiatives like the Watershed Testing Project, blending STEM education with real-world impact. Students participate in career readiness experiences focused on STEM innovation and tech industry exposure.

RealTrips: Immersive off-campus experiences connecting students to local businesses, courts, colleges, and cultural institutions to explore entrepreneurship and civic pathways.

Mother Earth on Mother’s Day: Led by the student-run Environmental Club at Mount Hebron and Mervo, this spring initiative focuses on sustainability, green space revitalization, and environmental justice

Youth Activist Academy Impact Event Series: Paving the Way for Young Women in STEM

Presented By: The Young Men of Mr. Brelsford's & Mr. Kur's Robotics & Engineering Class

Impact Event Purpose

The “Paving the Way for Young Women in STEM” event was designed to empower and inspire young women—particularly at Mervo High School—who may not see themselves as future leaders in science, tech, or engineering. With support from their male peers in STEM, this event created an interactive and welcoming space to reframe how intelligence and creativity are celebrated.

This initiative tackled a powerful cultural challenge: helping young women embrace their brilliance while feeling confident and supported in their academic and career ambitions.

Highlights of the Event

Student-Led STEM Showcases:
Graduating seniors from Mervo’s Robotics and Engineering program took the lead as STEM Recruiters, guiding their classmates through interactive displays featuring drones, 3D-printed models, and coding tutorials. These peer-led tours allowed students to ask questions, observe real-time problem-solving, and discuss future STEM career opportunities.
Networking Lunch & Career Conversations:

Students participated in small-group discussions with STEM industry professionals, including women leaders from Morgan State University, gaining valuable insight into future career pathways. These conversations offered students a glimpse into real-world STEM experiences while fostering meaningful connections with mentorsand role models.

Hands-On STEM Activity with Cool Nerds:
In one of the most popular activities of the day, students joined Cool Nerds for an engaging science lab session where they turned Milk into Plastic!

This activity introduced students to polymer science using household materials, demonstrating how creativity and chemistry go hand-in-hand. It sparked curiosity, laughter, and lots of “wow” moments as students molded their own plastic pieces from simple ingredients.

🏆 The Mission: Beat NCCU & Become the #1 HBCU in Blood Donation

MSU’s Red Cross Team and CASE Club launched this initiative to outpace North Carolina Central University in blood donations — and we’re well on our way! Through a powerful series of events, MSU students have shown what happens when health, hustle, and heart come together.

Bear Business Blood Drive PREP Rally & SNACK Attack Give Back

Goal: Mobilize student organizations to recruit donors while earning SOS points and logging 6+ community service hours.

Impact: Partnered with Student Life leaders to spread awareness, promote iron education, and get donors blood-drive ready — with snacks and strategy in hand!

Supacell Movie Nights

Goal: Use the power of storytelling to raise sickle cell awareness and highlight Black health disparities.

Impact: Hosted student-led film nights featuring Supacell and hosted powerful conversations around healthcare, race, and representation.

Bear Biz Fit – Campus Workout Experience

Goal: Build unity and excitement through movement.

Impact: Led by the Morganettes Dance Team, this high-energy fitness party prepped students for impact with music, community, and cardio!

Bear Business Therapy & Resource Workshops

Goal: Integrate business learning into life-saving spaces.

Impact: Activated CASE Club and EDAC student leaders to run business therapy stations and entrepreneurial resource tables during donation days, helping students build wealth and wellness at the same time.

Through innovative initiatives like the Bear Business Hospital at Morgan State University, UnBoxing Change empowers students with critical financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills. This hands-on learning lab helps students diagnose and treat real-world business challenges, making financial management both fun and accessible.

At the heart of the Bear Business Hospital experience are interactive learning stations where students:

Operate on invoices to identify cash flow issues, overdue balances, and budget gaps.
Write "Colorful Prescriptions”—creative financial action plans designed to ease the business blues using vibrant templates and analogies to demystify tax planning, pricing, and expense tracking.
Participate in Bear Business Therapy Sessions, which include:
Individual Consultations to help students understand their unique financial goals, pain points, and revenue potential.
Group Roundtables focused on collaborative problem-solving, peer mentorship, and resource sharing in a safe, supportive environment.

Baltimore Metropolitan Women and Small Business Center

Unboxing Change provides strategic project management and program development for the Baltimore Metropolitan Women’s Business Center, with Danielle Frisby serving as the Director of Entrepreneurship & Programs. In this role, Unboxing Change leads the design and execution of entrepreneurship training, business incubation, and resource navigation for women entrepreneurs—particularly those from historically underserved communities.

From overseeing workshops on financial planning and scaling businesses to producing the SBA-funded podcast The Exit Strategy, Unboxing Change brings deep expertise in sales, service, and sustainable business development. UnBoxing Change provides off-campus advisement to students, with Danielle Frisby serving as Co-Campus Director of the Blackstone LaunchPad Program at Morgan State University. In this role, she leads dynamic, hands-on entrepreneurship education for college students. Through signature initiatives like the Founders Academy, Bear Tank pitch competitions, and the Collegiate Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (CASE), Unboxing Change empowers students to transform bold ideas into sustainable ventures. By offering mentorship, career readiness training, and real-world business strategy, the program bridges the gap between campus innovation and long-term entrepreneurial success

R.I.D.E. Citizens Entrepreneurship Center Project Management

Unboxing Change serves as the project manager for the R.I.D.E. (Reintegration, Innovation, Development, and Entrepreneurship) Citizens Entrepreneurship Center, a transformative business development initiative designed to support formerly incarcerated individuals. Through a structured curriculum and personalized mentorship, the program equips participants with entrepreneurial, financial, and leadership skills to promote long-term economic stability.

By managing program design, community partnerships, and compliance, Unboxing Change ensures access to vital resources such as SBA guidance, workforce connections, and startup capital. The R.I.D.E. Danielle Frisby is a trailblazing entrepreneur, educator, and advocate committed to transforming the way young people engage with their communities. As the founder of UnBoxing Change, a student-led benefit corporation, Danielle has spent over a decade empowering students from Pre-K to College through hands-on leadership, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial training.

Her work spans education, public health, disaster preparedness, and economic justice, with a special focus on amplifying youth voices and creating real-world experiences that lead to meaningful change. Whether leading blood drive campaigns in partnership with the Red Cross, developing student incubators for emerging entrepreneurs, or creating mentorship pipelines for women in STEM, Danielle builds systems that prepare the next generation for leadership and legacy.

Danielle serves on the leadership team of her church and has been a trusted advisor to institutions like the Women’s Business Center, Morgan State University, and local school districts. Her work addresses critical social challenges, particularly in youth leadership, workforce readiness, social justice, and community health, with a strong focus on education, economic empowerment, and disaster preparedness.

A recipient of the Governor's Award in 2022, her work has been recognized by civic leaders, national organizations, and—most importantly—the students and families whose lives she’s helped transform.
