Objectives

General Objective: Designing and implementing novel strategies for the mitigation of cybersecurity attacks in next generation network architectures based on SDN and NFV, and assessing them in specific study cases

Specific Objectives

  • Designing and implementing traffic classification mechanisms using machine learning techniques which allow to detect irregular traffic (attacks against the network) and designing mechanisms for the mitigation of the attack throught the reconfiguration of traffic flows by leveraging SDN.

  • Designing, implementing and assessing network security functions (IDS, Firewalls, IPS and DPI) as network virtual functions, and designing mechanisms, based on traditional SDN protocols (e.g. OpenFlow) and their new alternatives (e.g. P4), in order to assign dynamically and efficiently each function at an adequate location according to the traffic to be analyzed.

  • Designing and implementing solutions that turn the network in a touchless system capable to determine, without human intervention, whether the implemented security policies are being adequately enforced.

  • Researching the design and implementation of security solutions based on efficient virtualization mechanisms (slices), and authentication and authorization mechanisms, and its application to Connected Industry.
