As part of the program “New Readings of Central America” of the Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica, the Editorial Line “Gender and Cultural Diversity” arises with the interest of strengthening historical processes that preceded and responded to the need to generate scientific knowledge and empowerment of social actors. This contributes to the formation and critical reflection focused on population studies with a gender and cultural diversity perspective.
Among the benefits of our publications are the following:
Creation of a bond with the national community to develop a feedback process and strengthen the institutional work of UNA.
The socialization of timely information to different public and private institutions in charge of decision making.
The exchange of experiences for social research with national and international entities.
The dissemination of knowledge, experiences and detailed information that contributes to the design of strategies for the improvement of the living conditions of the Costa Rican population.
The strengthening of advisory processes at the institutional level.
Training aimed at strategic population groups on phenomena related to social and economic conditions, among others, that influence their quality of life.
We invite you to consult our publications and be part of our academic production.

August 2025: Publication of the special issue.
About the Special Issue
This special issue is the result of the union between the Universidad de El Salvador and the Universidad Nacional (Costa Rica), who through the Conjeturas Sociológicas Journal and the program “New Readings of Central America”, invite reflection on the situation of subalternities, intersectionality and human rights in this shared and dynamic space that is Central America.
It is assumed that the Central American space -or certain sectors of its populations- have been subjugated and dominated for centuries, creating complex conditions of economic dependence, political and social control, and cultural invisibility. However, also present in this environment of shared historical processes are forms of resistance to the multiple strategies of oppression, which acquire particular and unique styles.
Finally, this call is open to case studies, research advances and theoretical-methodological reflections from multi- and interdisciplinary perspectives, which have as their axis the inquiry and reflection contributed by the social sciences to current problems.
Thematic axes
Advances and setbacks in women's rights.
Indigenous and Afro-descendant feminisms.
