Mrs. Barbara Hollish teaches gifted students at the Upper Moreland Elementary Center. This is her 29th year of teaching in Upper Moreland, and her ninth year as one of the district’s gifted support teachers. Way back in 1992, she began her career at Cold Spring teaching 2nd grade. From there, she spent a year in third grade and then two years as a writing coach for first through fifth graders. When the Intermediate School opened in 2004, Mrs. Hollish moved back into a classroom of her own to spend many years teaching fourth grade until she finally settled into her position as LEAP teacher working with our fabulous gifted students. She is thankful every day to be able to work with such an enthusiastic group of learners. She absolutely loves to be able to watch them grow and mature as many of them spend most of their early school years in gifted services.
Mrs. Hollish earned her Bachelor’s degree from Lebanon Valley College and her Master’s degree from West Chester University. Since her first day of kindergarten, way back when, Mrs. Hollish became enchanted with learning new things and knew from a very early age that she wanted to become a teacher. Since 1992, she has enjoyed helping elementary children of all ages and abilities also become excited about making their own discoveries.
In her personal life, Mrs. Hollish has been married to Lew Hollish, a contractor, for 21 years and has two children who keep her life outside of school very busy. Lewie, 18, has just begun a new chapter in his life as a freshman business student at the University of Pittsburgh. Samantha, 16, one of PA's newest drivers, is very excited about starting her junior year of high school and enjoys playing basketball and soccer. Mrs. Hollish loves to read and enjoys spending time outside working in her gardens, playing with the family's 9 year old Great Dane, Mabel, and watching and attending all kinds of sporting events.
