Mizzou Field Hockey Club (MIZ FH) is a University of Missouri sport where field hockey players can come together, practice, utilize teamwork and make connections, all while competing against other schools' teams in games and tournaments.
MIZ FH was founded in the Spring of 2025 by two University of Missouri students who wanted to bring the love they found for field hockey in high school to their college experience. While Mizzou historically has had a field hockey team, it went inactive for over a decade before these students worked to bring it back.
In the Spring of 2025, Caitlin Brandmill and Megan Hoenecke, a freshman and sophomore at the time, started planning how they would bring back field hockey to Mizzou. Knowing there was a large field hockey community in St. Louis and Kansas City, the girls began by finding a group of women who might be interested in joining the club.
They found over 40 girls who had played at various high schools who showed a significant interest in what the club could become. With that momentum, they started hosting informational meetings to gauge interest, and by the fall of the following year, they had a team of 30 girls practicing every Wednesday morning at Stankowski Field.
MIZ FH became an official Registered Student Organization on campus on Oct. 22, 2025. The team played its first-ever game on Nov. 9, 2025 against Washington University's field hockey team. Despite challenges with the weather and finding space for the event, the game was successfully hosted in Columbia and set the tone for the future of the club.
With a growing interest from incoming freshmen and a strong foundation of members looking forward to the future of the club, the team hopes to see more opportunities for growth in years to come, intending to soon become an official club sport on campus.
