National Novel Writing Month (November) is a fun, empowering approach to creative writing. The challenge: draft an entire novel in just one month. For 30 wild, exciting, surprising days, you get to lock away your inner editor, let your imagination take over, and just create!
The Young Writers Program supports under-18 writers and K-12 educators as they participate in this flagship event each November and take part in smaller writing challenges year-round.
The Global Read Aloud is simple in concept: age appropriate books are chosen to read with students during a set 6-week period (October - November). During that time, teachers try to make as many global connections as possible around the book at their grade level. Students connect through writing on platforms like Padlet, Twitter, etc. and have, not only, a real-world audience, but a global one for their thoughts around a text.
To draw attention to the remarkable variety of writing Americans engage in and to help make writers from all walks of life aware of their craft, the National Council of Teachers of English has established October 20 as the National Day on Writing®.
It’s important for everyone to share their knowledge about writing, organize participating groups in our schools and/or communities, and transform the public’s understanding of writing and the role it plays in society today.
