What is UMPSA Language and Cultural Carnival 2024 (UMPSA LCC 2024)?

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal number four (SDG4), Quality Education, Centre for Modern Languages (CML) aims to foster excellence in language and communication skills among UMPSA students. Therefore, the UMPSA Language and Cultural Carnival 2024 (UMPSA LCC 2024), in collaboration with the Centre for International Relation (CIR), aims to strengthen mastery and knowledge of English and foreign languages offered at institutions of higher learning. The foreign languages offered include Mandarin, German, Japanese, Arabic, Spanish, and Bahasa Melayu (especially for international students).

This carnival provides students with the opportunity to apply and demonstrate their communication skills using the languages they have learned. Communication skills in various languages will produce graduates who are highly employable and competitive. Furthermore, UMPSA is also hosting the Higher Education English Language Carnival 2024 (HE ELCa 2024), and UMPSA LCC 2024 complements HE ELCa 2024 as it offers the same target audience to participate in foreign language competitions and activities. This is because the competitions organised by UMPSA LCC 2024 are also open to participation from other institutions of higher learning, namely 20 Public Universities (UAs) and 4 Government-Linked Universities (GLUs). This carnival serves as a platform to hone the talents of participants in various languages.

What are the objectives of UMPSA LCC 2024?

The theme for UMPSA LCC 2024 is Fairytales, Folklores, Myths and Legends.

Through this theme, students will be exposed to the use of language and culture of various communities around the world. By participating in the competitions and activities, students are put in a situation where they have to create creatively, critically, and analytically. This carnival is also hoped to inspire the students to enjoy and experience the language and culture further so that the learning does not end in the classroom.

The benefits of UMPSA LCC 2024 are as follows:

• to serve as a starting point to strengthen ties between faculty, instructors and students in CML and other participating institutions of higher learning, including building cooperation networks (networking);

• empowering students through public speaking and individual and group thematic presentations;

• creating confident and skilled students; and

• producing proactive, quick decision-making, innovative, and creative students.
