Clothes You Make, Clothes You Buy, and Non-Garment Exhibit
Requirements:· Label all parts of the exhibit with the exhibitor’s name, club, and grade. In constructed garments, sew label at center back of neck, or other easy-to-find location.· Each item should include an information tag listing pattern company name and number, fiber content of fabric, and care instructions.· Garments may have been worn before showing but should be cleaned and pressed before exhibiting.· Bring clothing items on a hanger.Clothes You Make
Exhibit Suggestions:· Beginning examples include a simple constructed garment such as a top, shirt, pants, skirt, jumper, dress, etc. that has at least one of the following: collar, set-in sleeves, buttons/buttonholes, gathers, tucks, pleats, zipper or waistband. Suggested fabrics include woven cotton or cotton blends or t-shirt knits.· Intermediate examples include garments such as blouse, shirt, top, skirt, pants, sweatshirt, jumper, dress, jacket, etc. that has at least three of the following: collar/lapel, set-in or raglan sleeves, cuffs/ribbing, buttons/buttonholes, zipper, waistband/ribbing, topstitching, pockets, lining. Suggested fabrics include denim, gabardine, knits, fleece, corduroy, wool or wool blends, etc.· Advanced examples include constructed, designed, or recycled garments using a new fabric (e.g., microfiber, synthetic suede, leather, sand washed silk, fleece, etc.) or a technique which is new to the member AND uses at least three of the garments details listed in intermediate category.Clothes You Buy
Limit one entry Requirement:· Accompany with a binder including: o Colored photo of member wearing the garment (label photo with name, club, and color of complexion, hair, and eyes)o Cost of garment, explanation of why garment was purchased and examples of ways it will be used in existing wardrobe. Include inventory of wardrobe.o Laundry instructions and how you will care for the garment. Exhibit Suggestions:A purchased garment that fits into your wardrobe plan. Could be an item selected based on themes (seasonal/cultural/event specific/etc.); a historical period; a comparison of brand names or designers; costume history; development of professional uniforms; etc. or a poster showing cost comparisons, wardrobe building, accessorizing, care, etc.Non-Garment
Exhibits may be shown during the public Fashion Revue. Exhibit Suggestions:Constructed item such as pillow, apron, locker caddy, book bag, belt, puppet, racket cover, etc. or an educational display showing special topic exploration (other than purchased or constructed garment).Quilting
Requirements:· Include a tag with information including: pattern book & name, fiber content of fabric & batting, cost, and care instructions. · Item completely finished and ready for use with any finishing technique. May be machine quilted, hand quilted, or hand tied. Depending on skill level of 4-H’er, someone else may do the final quilting – include their name if so. Exhibit Suggestions:A quilted item, lap quilt, baby quilt, quilt for bed, restored/repaired quilt, historical study (story, poster, or display about a quilting heirloom), a display showing the history of quilting, fabrics and patterns used in quilting, or a topic of your choice.Fine Arts, Crafts
