To be eligible for consideration, our GME office requires that fellowship applicants have:
Completed or anticipate completion of an ACGME-accredited (U.S.) or ACGME-I Internal Medicine or combined medicine residency program prior to fellowship
Passed USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3
For the 3-year Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship, U.S. citizenship, permanent resident status, and J-1 visas is preferred. H1-B visa holders may be considered on a case-by-case basis.Â
For advanced fellowships, previous completion of a 3-year ACGME-accredited Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship is required.
Our program requires all of the following support documents:
Current curriculum vitae
Personal statement
Medical school transcripts (copies)
Three (3) letters of recommendation
Medical School Dean's letter (copy)
A valid ECFMG certificate (if you graduated from a medical school outside the United States or Canada)
Results of Part I , II and III of the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE)
A recent photo
ACGME-accredited Fellowships - Apply on ERAS
Applications for ACGME-accredited programs (Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, and Interventional Cardiology) should be submitted to ERAS.
While we preferentially review applications from those who signal our program, we also consider other factors in an applicant’s portfolio in making a decision on extending an interview invitation.

Non-accredited Fellowships - Direct Application
Applications for advanced non-accredited programs (Structural Heart Diseases, Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging, and Advanced Interventional Cardiology) should be sent to advancedcvd@umn.edu. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis from July through December.
