Sarah graduated from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2021 with a Bachelors of Science in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development with minors in English and Asian & Middle Eastern Studies - Japanese. During her undergraduate studies she worked in the Chen lab studying L1CAMs to explore nervous system development and function. After graduating, Sarah joined the Schuldt lab in 2021 to pursue research in pregnancy and infant development. Outside of the lab, she loves reading, visiting antique shops, and trying new restaurants.
Perianne graduated from Union College with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. After graduating, she worked as a research technician in the Charles Sawyers Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center studying mechanisms of resistance to hormone therapy and the process of lineage plasticity in prostate cancer. Perianne moved from New York to Minnesota to begin her graduate studies in 2023. She is a member of the Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology (MICaB) PhD program. She joined the Schuldt Lab to further pursue her research interests in T cell biology and immune tolerance. Outside of lab, Perianne enjoys watching sports, trying out new coffee shops, and traveling.
James graduated from Saint John’s University (MN) in 2021 with a B.A. in Biology. He then graduated from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) with a M.S. in Biological Sciences in 2023. During his master’s program, he worked as a student and technician in Dr. Pamela Skinner’s lab, where his thesis project focused on HIV and used SIV-infected rhesus macaque models to study infection in lymphoid tissues. In 2024, James began his Ph.D. in the Comparative and Molecular Biosciences (CMB) program, pursuing his passion for immunology. He joined the Schuldt Lab where he aims to better understand the immune system’s role in early life development. When not in the lab, James is a dedicated runner who enjoys competing in local races. He also loves watching Minnesota sports, and is a die-hard fan of the Gophers and Minnesota Vikings.
Aysa joined the Schuldt lab in 2022. Outside of the lab, Aysa enjoys painting, reading, trying new foods, and traveling. She will be completing an M.S. in Integrative Biology and Physiology at the UMN Medical School and working at Children's Hospital as she prepares to apply to medical school!
Dr. Schuldt earned his PhD in Genetics in 2012 at Michigan State University training in the laboratory of Andrea Amalfitano, DO, PhD. His graduate studies focused on the interactions between adenovirus and the immune system with the goal of improving adenovirus-based vectors for gene therapy and vaccination. He joined the University of Minnesota Center for Immunology in 2012 as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Currenty, Dr. Schuldt runs a laboratory at the University of Minnesota's Center for Immunology.
