About the playwright
Miguel Fiol is a Puerto Rican playwright whose work on behalf of the Puerto Rican people on the island and in Minnesota is an inspiring story in its own right. Now, Miguel's play, The Chrysalis, tells a stirring family drama recognized as a promising new work by the Miranda Family Foundation National Playwriting Competition in New York City and by Teatro del Pueblo in St. Paul.
Miguel's Fiol Family Foundation delivers medical supplies and healthcare support to Puerto Rico and sponsors community education programs for Latinos in partnership with the University of Minnesota. The foundation's presentation of historical photos at Metro State University is entitled, “The Spanish-American War of 1898 and the impact on the island health system.”
About the director
Joe Moses has served as dramaturg with playwright Miguel Fiol since they began transforming Miguel's novel of The Chrysalis for the stage in 2017 and during script development at The Playwright's Center in Minneapolis, Repertorio Espanol in New York City, and Teatro del Pueblo in St. Paul. He is a collaborative writer and faculty member of Writing Studies at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
