João Gabriel Duarte joins the SASP Lab as a PhD Student

João Gabrial has a BS in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Alagoas in Brazil. He was also member of the Scientific Computing and Visualization Lab in the same institution. João will develop innovative theoretical and computational solutions for solving engineering problems under uncertainties. Welcome João!

Prof. Ketson dos Santos co-organized a minisymposium at the ASCE/EMI 2023 conference in Atlanta-GA

Prof. Ketson dos Santos attended the ASCE/EMI conference in Atlanta-GA where he co-organized the minisymposium "Computational methods for stochastic engineering dynamics" with Prof. Ioannis Kougioumtzoglou (Columbia University/USA), Prof. Antonina Pirrota (Università Degli Studi di Palermo/Italy), and Dr. Vasileios Fragkoulis (Leibniz University Hannover/Germany). He also presented the work "A Rayleigh-Ritz solution approach for determining the Wiener path integral technique most probable path with mixed fixed/free boundaries" co-authored with Prof. Ioannis Kougioumtzoglou, where an efficient method for determining the Wiener path integral most probable path was presented to approximating the stochastic response of high-dimensional systems at a reduced computational cost. Moreover, Ms. Qianqing Wang, a PhD student from EPFL/Switzerland which supervised by Prof. Katrin Beyer and co-supervised by Prof. Ketson dos Santos attended the conference where she presented the work "Automated planning for the construction of laterally resistant masonry walls using irregular stones" co-authored by me, Mr. Bryan German Pantoja Rosero, and Prof. Katrin Beyer. She is also visiting the Stochastic Analysis and Signal Processing Lab this summer where she is developing AI models for the design of masonry structures.

Prof. Ketson R. M. dos Santos joins CEGE at the University of Minnesota Twins Cities

Prof. Ketson R. M. dos Santos received his PhD in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University (2019). His research focuses on the mathematical modeling of complex engineering systems under uncertainties, and on the development of signal processing techniques for the identification and analysis of engineering systems. Prof. dos Santos will join the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering in the Spring of 2023.
